There’s a new face stepping into a big role at iPride Softball, and if you’ve been around the LGBTQ+ softball scene, you probably already know his name: Sam Schisler. Known for his fundraising magic, infectious positivity, and decades of community involvement, Sam has officially been appointed as the new Partnerships Director on the iPride Executive Board, effective January 26, 2025.

He’ll be taking over from Sam Lehman, who will step down at the conclusion of the upcoming iPride Softball Winter Meeting in Houston. Schisler’s appointment will run through January 2026.

Professionally, Schisler serves as Kansas State Manager for Suntory Global Spirits, part of a commercial sales leadership team overseeing $1.5 billion in revenue. But he’s just as well known off the field. From his 15-year board role with Columbus’s CLGSA, where he helped raise over $750,000, to his longtime involvement in Kansas City’s HASL, Sam’s commitment to LGBTQIA2+ sports and community causes runs deep. Over the years, his work has supported organizations like AIDS WALK, The Trevor Project, Art for Life, and KC Cause, raising more than $1 million in total.

In 2023, he was inducted into the NAGAAA Hall of Fame—a fitting honor for someone who has dedicated so much time, talent, and heart to the game.

In the official announcement, iPride Commissioner Jeff Sloan said:

“We’re excited to have someone with Sam’s experience, vision and energy join our ranks on the iPride Softball Executive Board. Sam’s track record of fundraising and deep understanding of how to attract and manage partner relationships will be a benefit to our organization.”

Schisler holds a degree in business organizational communication from Ohio University. He currently lives in Kansas City and is known online as #beambourbonbear, but among friends and family, you might hear him called Bubba, Sammy Joe, or just Sam.

Welcome aboard, Sam. We’re excited to see what you bring to the table.

As we gear up for the 2025 Compete Women's Leadership Summit on October 8-9 in Wesley Chaple, we want to recognize the achievements and contributions of women athletes throughout history. To say that women have faced immense challenges in the world of sports hardly begins to describe it. From being barred from competition to battling for equal playing space and equipment to equal television rights and equal pay – it’s been a long battle for true recognition. Yet in spite of these obstacles, female athletes have broken records, shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations of girls and women athletes. One of these pioneers was Wilma Rudolph, who overcame polio as a child to become the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at the 1960 Olympic Games held in Rome. Her dominance on the track inspired countless young girls to pursue athletics. Another pioneer is Billie Jean King who single handedly has changed the face of women’s tennis in particular and women’s sports in general. Some may only remember her 1973 victory over Bobby Riggs in the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match, proving that women players were as good or better than the men and deserved equal prize money. In 1974 she founded the Women’s Sports Foundation that advocates for girls and women in sports through a number of avenues, including research, financial assistance to aspiring female athletes and opportunities for both girls and women to participate in sports.
