Yes, It Gets Better!
We have all been incredibly disturbed by the recent wave of gay teen suicide. Some of these victims were so terrified of their future they saw no reason to continue their lives, and others were flat-out bullied into taking their own lives. Either way, they are all very sad stories. In the wake of this trend I am pleased to see so many people – gay and straight – standing up and letting their voices be heard. As out gay adults, the most important thing we can do is convey to our younger counterparts that, yes, it does get better.

When I was in high school you just weren’t out, especially if you were an athlete. Even in college being out for me meant attending clandestine meetings with other gay people and getting stares from people who knew. I didn’t know of any athletes on campus who were out; that was unheard of
Parity in football is the name of the game these days. Week in and week out in the NFL, every team has a chance to beat their opponent. At the most, only a few teams go into each season without a shot at making the playoffs. And teams regularly come out of nowhere to make Super Bowl runs.
