From the Sky Box
We hear from lots of sports legends at Compete but were quite surprised to get a letter from Olympic diver Greg Louganis — recommending Michael Holtz as our 2010 Athlete of the Year.
While we have interviewed Mr. Louganis in the past, his recommendation of Michael really got our attention. Mr. Louganis called Michael “committed, energetic” and a “wonderful role model.” Add those great qualities to a strong sports background and dedication to the GLBT sports community and you get an outstanding example for others and our 2010 Athlete of the Year.
Though we were impressed with Mr. Louganis’ letter, it really took an army to nominate and select our Athlete of the Year. To that end, we would like to thank all of our 2010 applicants and our three finalists, Wayne Knaub, David Rae and Eddie Valentine, for their outstanding nominations. We’d also like to thank judges
Ben Cohen, Doria Biddle, Chad Allen, and Blake Skjellerup for helping us select our winner.
And in case the eyeful of Michael’s photos on this site aren’t enough, we will be giving you a chance to get up close and personal with Michael on
Compete Radio. We will welcome Michael to our radio show, on
qnation.fm, on Friday, December 17 at 4 p.m. EST. Then tune in throughout the month to hear from each of our finalists.
Oh, and before we forget, we would like to thank Mr. Louganis for his dedication to the gay sports community and for introducing us to Michael Holtz.
As Mr. Louganis says: Namaste,
