What a great issue this month's Compete is! This is one of the two issues of Compete this year that will be on stands for two months – but I believe it is full of enough great features, interviews and columns to keep you satisfied until October. Two of my favorite 80s icons were interviewed for this issue. As a teenager my eyes were glued to my television screen in 1984 and 1988, as Greg Louganis put a stamp on his legacy as one of America’s greatest Olympians. When I had the privilege of interviewing him this summer, it made me realize how much I love what I do.
And speaking of loving what he does, Alfonzo Chavez was positively giddy at the prospect of having Taylor Dayne as our Couch Potato.
I wanted a fun, summer feature, so we had our D.C. photographer William Waybourn tag along with Steve Siegel and Justin Wilson, avid kayakers and partners in life. The result was a wonderful photo essay featuring these two men. Toss in a preview of the Gay Softball World Series, Tania Katan’s craziest “Towel Girl” column to date, an update on NYC’s Charity for Life softball tournament, tips on how to incorporate boxing into your fitness regimen and all our regular features, and we’ve certainly got a jam-packed issue!
During some down time in August, I am thrilled to be attending NAGAAA’s annual World Series in Columbus, Ohio. If you’re a player or fan and you’ll be there, too, please come say hello.
