Really excited now that the Acceptance Tour 2011 has kicked off in style in the UK. We have had two great events over the past couple of weeks.
The first was in Manchester hosted by the Village Spartans Rugby Club. We weren’t sure what to expect but it was really good fun. I met loads of people and as it was quite a small venue I managed to
get round to see most of them. Jonathan Mayor MC’d the evening and he was really kind to me – we had some fun and I made him take his shirt off with me on stage, so I’m not sure he will ever forgive me for that!
We also launched our StandUp Brand with I Stand Up with Ben Cohen T Shirts. My message is all about standing up for those who perhaps find it difficult to stand up for themselves. We all need that at times. It’s time to stand up to the bullies and that’s what we are doing. One way of supporting the cause is to buy, and of course wear, an ‘I Stand Up With Ben Cohen’ T Shirt. The T shirts went down a storm and we have now virtually sold out of the UK ones. More on the way in the USA so look out for them.
London was next with 400 people crammed into the Two Brewers in Clapham. Phew! It was busy! We raised a huge amount of money for the tour, the biggest bid of the night being made on the ‘shirt off my back’ which fetched a massive £2600. This time our hosts were the Kings Cross Steelers.
Nick Heath from Rugby Media looked after me on the stage and made sure I could hear all the questions (some of which made me blush as you can imagine!)
Both evenings were great fun. They were low key but high energy and I was able to start to spread the message that needs to be made – we are no longer going to accept bullying – we are going to stand up against the bullies and stand up for equality.
Not long now and we will be bringing that message across the Atlantic.
Atlanta, New York, Washington DC and Seattle. See you there!
I wanted to open a dialogue with you about this blog. I see you have presented your purpose as wanting to stand up for equality and to stop bullying. I am a Christian and believe that your choice to have sex with other men is sinful. Does that in your mind make me a bully, and does that rob you of your equality?

MotherGoss My view is that you are as entitled to your beliefs as everyone else. Unless you harm others through your beliefs then I would not consider you a bully. For the record, not that it makes any difference on this occasion, if you research a bit further you will find that I am straight, married and have twin daughters. Ben.

Mind your own sin
@MotherGoss
I am a Christian too and have yet to find the Bible verse where God says its anyone's personal mission to judge the actions of others (judge not lest ye be judge, ALL have sinned and come short of the glory of god, do unto others as you would have them do unto you, don't not point out a speck in someone else's eye when there is a log in your own). The fact that you so blindly feel the need to judge someone else for something they aren't is not only blasphemous (you're putting yourself in the place of God) it makes you look dumb. I would suggest you concern yourself with your own relationship with God so you don't have answer for trying to take his place when you stand before him.

G-D is perfect.
As a G-D fearing Jew who belives that G-D is perfect and everything he creates is perfect. Then I say to those, how ever you worship G-D, If you belive homosexuality is a sin and is not natural to G-D's laws then you must belive G-D makes mistakes. So look into your souls for those who belive G-D is not perfect will NEVER enter his Kingdom.
I am passionate about standing up against homophobia and feel compelled to take action. It is time we stand up for what is right and support young people who are being harmed. As athletes, it is not enough just to have strong bodies. We must have strong characters and use our voices to support those who need and deserve it.
Every person on this planet has a right to be true to themselves, to love and be loved, and to be happy. I encourage others to stand up with me and make a difference. Stand up for equality, stand up against bullying.
